What to Do If Your Pet Is Lost
Best Friends Animal Society recommends acting immediately and staying persistent.
Call your local police and animal control every day — animal control keeps a record of found animals.
Visit area shelters in person every day. Pets may not be properly identified over the phone. Contact shelters near and far.
Check with local rescue groups (found online).
Place your pet's bedding and toys outside — your pet may pick up the scent. Leave a worn, unwashed piece of your clothing outside your property.
Post flyers with a color photo and the word "LOST" along with your phone number on telephone poles, vet offices, grocery stores, pet supply stores, pharmacies, libraries, churches, train stations, schools, and gas stations.
Be persistent — don't feel like you're bothering anyone. Sometimes it takes a while to find a missing pet.
